Deann...

In the simplest terms, no one ever opt in to have their name sold on a list.

Hopefully one day what you are doing will become illegal.

I sell my e mail and phone number lists and do not see what harm is done.
My friends can just delete the emails that they are not interested in or they go to their junk box.
They do not have to take the telemarketing calls they are not interested in either.
And I get to make money. What is the big deal?

Think about how you interact with your own inbox when considering buying or renting a list. Do you open emails from people/companies you don;t know or don't expect to hear from? What kind of response do you expect to get from a group of "strangers" vs those that want and expect to hear from you...email marketing is all about relationship building. Nurture those relationships over time and they will provide results...and, you get to save puppies too - a win-win!
