I certainly stick to most of those rules and always tell friends or family that complain about privacy issues that you should just not put that stuff out there to begin with.

Thank you Garin! I agree completely. Companies need a solid all-around digital strategy. Those that focus on only one part, will be playing catch-up with their competitors. Too many companies are reluctant to delve in for fear of the unknown or, as above, privacy concerns. But with the right strategy, and right guidance, they can be way ahead of the game!

Thanks,

Xan

23 Tweets so far Xan, great job! One of them is from me. :)

I agree that companies need an effective social media strategy, and I think there is no better social media strategy than hiring a smart social media strategist.

Combine social media strategy with solid search engine optimization, and most importantly a strong email marketing strategy and you have got yourself a recipe for online success!

Cheers,

Garin

Another great post Xan!

The first time I recall ever warning anyone about the myth of online privacy was back in 96 and now over a decade later I still get the shocked look when I explain to people about how they are responsible for their privacy online.

It's an odd way of thinking when we want the government to refrain from impeding the free flow of information on the web and yet the first moment we step on a rake, we scream for someone to take responsibility for our own actions.

While the internet offers a wonderful sense of intimacy, it's really an illusion and far too many people get lulled by this and make bad choices. I just read this week about how divorce lawyers love social media for obvious reasons ;).

jim
