This Week’s Email Marketing Challenge – Testing, testing, testing!

This week's Email Marketing Challenge is Testing, testing, testing!

This week’s challenge is testing!

The eMail Guide posts a weekly challenge to encourage you to incorporate something different into your email marketing campaigns, to learn from the results, and to become a better email marketer.

This weeks challenge:

Select one or two messages from your scheduled email campaigns and pick something to test, for example:

  • Subject lines – Come up with two different (but equally great) subject lines.
  • Content – Create two different types of content to present to your subscribers by writing original copy, varying photos or ads, including customer testimonials, or providing unique values.
  • Calls-to-action – Decide if you will test the placement of calls-to-action within your email, the number of times you include them, or the style (text links or buttons) that elicits the most click-throughs.

Once you have selected what to test and have created the two versions, send one test version to 10% of your mailing list and the other to another 10%. When you see which of the two performs better with your test group of subscribers, go ahead and use the best one on the other 80%. Be creative! You can think of many other things worth testing.

Why you should take the challenge:

Readers disengage and ignore emails when they see the same information presented the same way again and again.  With proper testing, you will soon learn what is working and what does not. Without testing we are nothing!

The eMail Guide challenges you to take what you learned and apply that to your email campaigns moving forward. You never really know how the email looks until you see it through the eyes of your subscribers. The same is true of your websites and landing pages. So test, test, test!

Thrilled with your results or want to show off what you got? Send us a link to any results you want to share and we’ll post them here. Show us some samples of what worked best for you.
