As much as we in the eMail marketing biz all look forward to going home for the holidays, we still have to get there and getting there is not even half the fun any more. Fact is, you can be so stressed out by the time you arrive that you never get to really enjoy being home and darn it, you deserve to enjoy being home for the holidays.
We know a lot of eMail marketing pros are traveling over the next week or so. By now you likely have your campaigns ready to go for the busiest eMail marketing period of the year so, relax and enjoy five tips to help make your journey home a wee bit easier.
5 – Bring snacks, water, hand sanitizer wipes and tissues. You just don’t know how long you’ll be held over at any point in your journey. Make sure you have something to snack on till you can get your hands on those tasty airline peanuts. As well, crowded places can be a holiday for flu bugs so, be prepared.
Here’s a great video (with some classic retro footage) from MIT on how you can travel and stay healthy doing so.
4 – Nothing brings the holidays closer to one’s heart than doing something simple and nice for someone else. Be it opening a door or giving up your seat, this really is the true spirit of the holidays and one simple act can fill you with that spirit. There’s a whole foundation dedicated to paying it forward and you can check them out here.
3 – Make some time to do some stretching while you are waiting to board and especially while you are onboard. You’ll want to be limbered up for all those hugs and especially lifting up the little ones for a kiss.
2 – Have a “sanity saver” kit with you. Stock it with an extra good book, a comfort food to snack on, one of those airplane neck pillows and your MP3 player with audio books or good tunes. Pack your best time wasting distractions, the stuff that always takes your mind off troubles (yes, that includes your childhood teddy bear). Print out some fav articles from The eMail Guide to re-read for example.
1 – When everything is going to heck in a hand basket remember this one thing: relax, you’ll get there. If that doesn’t help, just remember the magic words: “HO, HO, HO”, say them out loud enough times and it will put a smile on your face.
